Mayor Walter Kolb of Frankfurt today told a German court here that he believed that it was the jealousy of other bankers or anti-Semitic tendencies among German officials which was responsible for the cabling of the Jewish Restitution Bank of Frankfurt by the State of Hesse.
Testifying at the trial of five officials of the bank, including Joseph Klibansky, best known Jewish lawyer in Germany, Mayor Kolb pointed out that in the case of a bank scandal involving non-Jews, the state recently hushed the matter. Mayor Kolb, who although a non-Jew served on the board of directors of the Jewish bank, told the court that he and his colleagues believed that the bank was operated according to sound principles.
