The outbreaks of violence by Palestine terrorists are the work of a relatively small body of extremists and are condemned not only by the responsible leaders of Palestine Jewry, but by Jews throughout the world, Colonial Minister Col. Oliver Stanley stated today in Commons.
He charged that the disturbances “whose object is to further political aims” are seriously impeding the war-effort of the United Nations and injuring the Jewish cause, and voiced the hope that the government would obtain the active cooperation of the Jewish population in fighting the extremists.
Lord Winterton, Conservative, asked Stanly whether in view of the fact that “both sides in Palestine are arming and a danger of civil war exists” the government would publish a White Paper on the situation. Stanley replied that he was considering means of bringing the situation to the attention of the public. Queried as to where the terrorists obtained arms, the Colonial Minister said that in the past five years a number of arms have been stoles or purchased from soldiers.
