Condoleezza Rice, who has pledged to work diligently on Israeli-Palestinian issues, was confirmed as secretary of state. Rice was confirmed 85-13 Wednesday and is expected to begin her duties Thursday. Rice was President Bush’s national security adviser in his first term and served as an envoy on Israeli-Palestinian issues in the summer of 2003.
