Congratulating President-elect George W. Bush on his victory, Israeli officials expressed hopes that bilateral ties would remain close under his presidency and that the new administration would continue efforts to help bring peace to the region. Prime Minister Ehud Barak said he is certain that Bush would continue to broaden the “special relationship” between Israel and the United States.
