Congress Group Asks Action to Close Gap Between Negroes and Whites

In a statement today deploring the race riots in Newark and elsewhere, the New Jersey Region of the American Jewish Congress urged residents of New Jersey “to join in supporting whatever steps are necessary to close the gap between whites and Negroes — in housing, education, employment and, above all, in communication. Silence and inaction now,” the statement added, “would be an invitation to disaster.”
