A quotation from Isaiah in Hebrew characters was printed in the Congressional Record today, the first known instance of the use of the Hebrew language in this official publication, according to Government printing office authorities. The Hebrew quotation was inserted in Volume 107, Number 10, of the Congressional Record covering the proceedings and debates of the 87th Congress, first session.

Rabbi Arnold S. Turetsky, of Congregation Ohev Tzedek, Youngstown, Ohio, was invited to offer the opening prayer before the House of Representatives. He included, in Hebrew, the quotation from Isaiah 11:9 “The earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters that cover the sea. “
