The first Rosh Hashonah since the Hitlerite persecutions began passed quietly in Berlin. Services in the regular synagogues and the numerous temporary places of service were over-crowded with worshippers. In many synagogues there were two shifts of services. All the synagogues and temporary synagogues were strictly guarded by Jews chosen by the Berlin Jewish community, without any assistance from the regular police.
