Dachau Camp Official Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Killing Jews

Franz Hoffman, a former detention chief at the Dachau murder camp, was sentenced to life imprisonment yesterday for the murder of two Jews in 1938.

Charges of war crimes have been filed again at 12,715 persons in West Germany since the end of World War II, the West German Ministry of Justice declared today in its annual report.

Of the 5,732 persons who were convicted, 12 were sentenced to death, 68 to life imprisonment, 5,178 to jail terms and 115 were penalized by fines. The courts acquitted 4,011 and 2,549 cases proceedings were closed. The report said that the prosecution of Nazi crimes will be “essentially” completed within two or three years.”
