A mass emigration of Jews from Danzig has started as result of the growing Nazi control of the Free City, it was disclosed here today.

Figures made public today show that the Jewish population, which number over 10,000 in 1929, has decreased now to less than 7,000 and still is in the process of diminishing.

Despite the fact that Danzig is a Free City and under administration of the League of Nations, the Jewish population is suffering discriminations because of the growing Nazi influence on the Danzig Senate. Jews are being dismissed, not only from municipal institutions, but also from private enterprises.

Nazis are threatening all non-Jewish firms which do not dismiss their Jewish employees. The Nazi organ, “Danziger Vorposten,” is poisoning the public mind with constant anti-Semitic agitation and inciting articles.

For years Danzig was a transmigration center for Jewis migrating from Poland. About sixty thousand passed through Danzig from Russia and Poland from 1920 to 1925. A number of these emigrants, having sufficient capital, stopped in the city and helped considerably to develop its importance as a trading and transit center.

Since the Nazis came to power in Germany the Hitler movement in Danzig has assumed very serious proportions.
