Minister of Agriculture Moshe Dayan today withdrew his threat of resigning from the Cabinet, and agreed to keep his post in the Government after a series of conferences with Prime Minister Levi Eshkol and Pinhas Capir. The latter holds the portfolios of Minister of Finance and Minister of Commerce and Industry.
The parleys produced agreement on several major points raised by Mr. Dayan prior to his threat last week that he would formally quit today. One of these issues was a demand for closer liaison between the Agriculture Ministry and the country’s security apparatus. Another revolved about a demand by Mr. Dayan that his Ministry be given certain prerogatives, including the right to fix prices of agricultural products and to have a hand in food planning and imports.
After his meetings with Mr. Eshkol and Mr. Sapir, Mr. Dayan said today that he has obtained the Premier’s “clarification” of the disputed issues, and would be able therefore to respond to Mr. Eshkol’s request that he stay on in the Cabinet. Mr. Eshkol has opposed Mr. Dayan’s resignation vigorously.
