Meir de Shalit, a leading tourism entrepreneur, has been asked by Foreign Minister Moshe Dayan to head the overseas information advisory committee attached to the Ministry. De Shalit will replace veteran diplomat Ehud Avriel who recently suffered a heart attack and asked to be relieved of the post.

De Shalit is a former director general of the Ministry of Tourism (which is now part of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry). He is a leading figure in Yigael Yadin’s Democratic Movement. The advisory committee comprises mainly information and communications experts. It meets regularly and studies ways to improve Israeli propaganda abroad, making its proposals to the Foreign Minister and his information aide, Moshe Arad.
