Defense Minister Yitzhak Mordechai is slated to meet later this week with Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat’s deputy, Mahmoud Abbas, and perhaps with Arafat as well. Israeli officials rejected a statement by U.S. State Department spokesman James Rubin, who said the ball is now in Israel’s court to conclude a deal with the Palestinians.
