A Foreign Ministry source denied a report that the United States government had hinted to Israel that it would like to see fewer Israeli VIPs visiting the US because they present security problems. According to a story sent from Washington by the correspondent for Yediot Achronot, the Nixon administration was “fed up” with providing massive security for frequent Israeli visitors.

The correspondent wrote that Finance Minister Pinhas Sapir had been protected by 46 Secret Service men during his recent visit to the US. The source said the Foreign Ministry knew of no such approach from the US, hinted or otherwise. He said Israel was completely satisfied with the protection provided by the US for visiting Israeli officials.

Seymour Graubard, national chairman of the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith has called upon President Nixon to deny “most favored nation” trade status to the Soviet Union because of that nation’s treatment of its Jewish community. Graubard said that denying the most favored nation status “is both logical and compelling so long as the ransom of Soviet Jews continues.”
