The difficulties which threatened for some time to interfere with the ARA feeding of the Jewish population of the gubernies of Kiev, Chernigov, Podolia and Vohlynia have been settled satisfactorily, Colonel Haskell of the ARA informs the J.T.A. correspondent. The government has now recanted its refusal to pay the expenses of the food shipments. The ARA by the new arrangements will not have any local branches in the gubernies concerned, but will send all its food from one Kiev central warehouse. It will now be possible, according to Col. Haskell to tide over the feeding of the Jewish population until the summer harvest.
The Ukraine government’s refusal to permit the establishment of branches in the several guberines is believed to be due to its intention to concentrate military forces there and its reluctance to have any foreigners witness the maneuvres.
