The visit here of Queen Marie should be used as an opportunity to express a protest on behalf of the Jews and other minorities who are oppressed in Roumania, urges the “Jewish Morning Journal” of Oct. 18.
Writing editorially, the paper observes: “The great ado created here by the Queen’s visit should not be regarded as an indication that the vast American population has suddenly been converted into an admirer of monarchy and is ready to condone all wrongs and injustices perpetrated by a badly run government across the sea.
“Those who feel that they should use this opportunity to express their dissatisfaction or protest against certain conditions in the old or new Roumania, should act with moderation: American public opinion has a right to demand this of them. But this does not mean that they must keep silent, or that there is no desire to hear them. So long as they will voice their feelings in an orderly manner without disturbing the peace, they can win sympathy, which may also result in good for their suffering brothers and sisters over there.”
“TIMES” RIDICULES “INTERNATIONAL BANKERS” MYTH
The “international bankers,” those ghouls of Mr. Fords’ fancy and the nightmare of the European anti-Semites, are at it again-this time in Indiana-we read in the New York “Times” of Oct. 17.
Discussing the revival of the “international bankers” myth in connection with the revelations of political corruption in Indiana and the role of the Ku Klux Klan there, the “Times” pokes fun at those who take stock in this legend. The paper remarks:
” ‘International bankers’ are the villains of political fiction. To the Democrats they are Republicans; to the Republicans, Democrats; to the Lafollettians, the caitiffs who bend to their infamous designs both great parties. They caused the war. They cooked the peace. There is no end to their deviltry. They have even ventured rashly into Indiana, where a devouring lion is pretty sure to be eaten up by the hardest-boiled set of politicians anywhere on view. Secretary of Labor Davis warned startled Kokomo of their effort in the present campaign to tear down the tariff wall ‘in order that they may realize greater percentages on their loans abroad.’ They are in even worse business. Who is at the bottom of all this clamor about Republican corruption in Indiana, these attempts to besmirch noble names, dear to the Ku Klux, this intrusion upon the privacy of a former Grand Dragon, whose personal aberrations or misfortunes shouldn’t be allowed to diminish the debt of gratitude which the Republican Party of Indiana owes to his energetic genius?”
