Dr. Theodor H. Gaster, Professor of Comparative Religion at Dropsie College here, has received a 1954 Guggenheim Fellowship for a comprehensive study of the Samaritans, it was announced today.
Dr. Gaster, who two years ago was chosen the United States Government’s Professor of the History of Religions at the University of Rome, will prepare translations of the principal literary works of the Samaritans, now preserved on manuscripts, and will compile the first complete dictionary of their language. The sect now numbers less than 200 persons living in Palestine.
