Dr. Mortimer Epstein, Jewish Leader, Dies in London at Reception for New Rabbi

Dr. Mortimer Epstein, active member of the Board of Deputies of British Jews and treasurer of the United Synagogue, collapsed and died here during a reception following the induction of M. Swift, new rabbi of a London synagogue. He was 66. A few minutes earlier he had replied to a toast.

Dr. Epstein, a scholar and authority on education, was for some time a director of the “Jewish Chronicle,” to which he contributed for many years under a nom depute.
