Senator Estes Kefauver, Democrat of Tennessee, predicted tonight that U.S. Immigration laws would be liberalized as American trade policy moved into closer partnership with that of other free lands in coming years. He denounced the national origins quota system as “deliberate discrimination.”

Senator Kefauver spoke at a testimonial dinner honoring Dr. Joachim Prinz, president of The American Jewish Congress, at the Essex House. Five hundred persons attended the dinner, which marked Dr. Prinz’s sixtieth birthday and the twenty-fifth anniversary of his arrival in the U.S. from Nazi Germany. Gifts totalling more than $160,000 for the current fund-raising drive of the American Jewish Congress were announced at the dinner.

Messages congratulating Dr. Prinz were received from Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion of Israel, Governor Nelson Rockefeller, Mayor Robert Wagner and the Jewish community of Berlin.
