Close to 500 friends and associates paid tribute yesterday to Dr. Samuel Silverberg, founder and former president of the Jewish Daily Forward who died Saturday at the age of 88 while on vacation in Tucson, Arizona. A founder and long-time activist in The Workmen’s Circle, and national president of the Jewish Socialist Farband at the time of his death, he was also former chairman of WEVD. Dr. Silverberg had, in addition to practicing medicine, been president of Sterling Magnesia Co., a pharmaceutical firm from which he retired in 1952. For more than two decades he headed the Workmen’s Circle division of the Jewish Labor Committee.
