Druze Leader Arrested for Alleged Syrian Spy Connection

The arrest of Mouhammed Hassan Safadi, alias Abu Adnan, a Druze leader on the Golan Heights, was disclosed today. Safadi is being held on suspicion of contacts with Syrian agents. He is the 55th person detained in connection with a Syrian-directed spy ring operated by Druze families on the Golan Heights. Safadi headed the largest of the clans and was regarded as the spokesman for the Golan Heights Druze community.

Moshe Sasson, the son of former Police Minister Eliahu Sasson, will be named Israel’s Ambassador to Italy, it was reported in Jerusalem today. He is expected to take up his new post this summer.
