The East German regime has presented the “Fatherland’s Order of Merit” to Arnold Zweig, 79-year-old German-Jewish writer who returned to East Germany from Israel in 1950. Mr. Zweig denied some weeks ago reports that he had written a severe denunciation of the East German Governments anti-Israel policy but he said he did not approve of the anti-Israel line the government was following.
