Pope Paul VI has set September 14 as the opening date for the fourth session of the second Vatican Ecumenical Council and has ordered that it will be the last session, the Vatican said today.
The fact that this will be the closing session virtually assures that final action will be taken on the declaration on Christian-Jewish relations which was overwhelmingly approved at the third session last November. The declaration, which was twice revised, specifically holds that Jews, past and present, have no special guilt in the crucifixion of Jesus, all mankind being held responsible. The declaration also warns Catholics against anti-Semitic attitudes and actions.
