Elisabeth Rethberg returned to the Metropolitan Opera Monday evening and succeeded-believe it or not!-in transtorming teh inanity of Puccini’s “Madame Butterfly”into something dramatic adn even at moments thrilling.

That same evening, the Gordon String Quartet helped the Beethoven Association by doing a grand job with Boccherini’s Quartet in A (Op.33,No.6).
