With Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion’s departure for a visit to France, Belgium and Holland today, Finance Minister Levi Eshkol became Acting Prime Minister and holder of five portfolios in the coalition Cabinet.
During Mr. Ben-Gurion’s absence, Mr. Eshkol assumes the prime ministry and the ministry of defense, which Mr. Ben-Gurion normally holds; the foreign ministry, which Mr. Ben-Gurion held during the absence from Israel of Mrs. Golda Meir; the education ministry which Mr. Ben-Gurion was holding temporarily following the resignation of Zalman Aranne, and his own finance ministry.
