Willi Steinmetz, a former Nazi storm trooper, has been sentenced to five years in jail by a German court at Kassel for beating and torturing scores of Jews and other anti-Nazis in Northern Hesse.
Steinmetz, a one-time Communist who turned storm trooper in 1933, was notorious for administering savage beatings with a rubber hose and for forcing his victims to swallow large doses of castor oil. Some 90 witnesses testified against him.
