Famed theatrical producer and director Erwin Piscator has been invited to stage Richard Wright’s “Native Son” at the Chamber Theater in Tel Aviv, he told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency here today.
An anti-Nazi, Piscator left Germany in 1938 and went to the United States where he headed New York’s “Dramatic Workshop” until his return to Germany in 1951.
Recently awarded the Goethe Plaque by the State of Hesse, Mr. Piscator hopes to travel to Israel in late April and to put “Native Son” on the stage in mid-May. He said he looks forward to Israel with great expectations, particularly since a number of Israel’s leading theatrical figures studied stagecraft under his direction.
