The Federal government will be on the alert to detect any signs of Nazi propaganda in the Northwest section of the United States, Ralph Bonham, new Federal district director of immigration, announced here. Mr. Bonham takes up his duties here following his transfer from Portland, Ore. The immigration official has been in the service for more than 30 years.
“Deportation laws will be invoked, if Nazi propagandists try to work in the Northwest,” Mr. Bonham declared. “I believe, however,” he added, “that there is slight danger here of an outbreak of Nazi propaganda, such as the one reported in the East.”
The statement of Mr. Bonham was occasioned by the protests of Jewish residents of Longview, who reported that Nazi sailors had landed from German ships and paraded through the town.
P. Allen Rickles, head of the Northwest B’nai B’rith anti-defamation activities, investigated the incident and reported that there was little likelihood that such incidents would recur.
