A Stradivarius violin, valued at $100,000, the property of Henry Ford, arrived here today in an armored car from Dearborn, Michigan, to be put at the disposal of eleven-year-old Grisha Goluboff for his concert Sunday evening at “The Epic of a Nation” at Soldier Field.
The violin was delivered to the Jewish Community Day committee at its headquarters at 30 West Washington street and immediately placed in custody of the Cook County Sheriff, William J. Meyering, who assigned Deputy Sheriff Charles Lawton as personal guard for the precious instrument.
The Stradivarius will be kept in a bank vault until Sunday evening when an armored car will again be used to transport it to Soldier Field. After the concert, the violin will be brought back to Mr. Ford’s home in Dearborn.
In making the instrument available for the violin prodigy, Mr. Ford expressed his great pleasure at being able to aid Jewish Community Day. The day’s program is being held in connection with A Century of Progress, the Chicago world’s fair.
