The Senate Foreign Relations Committee has unanimously urged President Ford to suspend air services to and from any nation aiding and abetting international political terrorism. The Committee’s view was expressed in “a sense of the Senate” resolution that now goes before the full Senate for approval. It was authored by Sen. Jacob K. Javits (R.NY) and co-sponsored by a bipartisan bloc of 20 Senators. Under the U.S. anti-hijacking act of 1974, the President is authorized to negotiate for suspension of air services either to or from a nation in violation of the act. The resolution, issued last Friday, specifically recommends the President to take the action.
