Reports from Cairo that Israel was to be granted use of a British military airport on the Mediterranean island of Malta as a training base was dismissed as “absolute rubbish” by the Foreign Office today. Malta, which is independent within the British Commonwealth, has also denied that facilities would be made available to Israeli armed forces for training purposes.
