Former Vice President Walter Mondale said Tuesday that he opposes the Administration’s proposed sale of AWACS radar planes to Saudi Arabia. The sale, Mondale claimed, will only escalate the arms race in the Mideast. Addressing some 300 people at a Foreign Policy Association luncheon at the Pierre Hotel, Mondale said the U.S. should pursue the Camp David peace process in the Mideast because “it is essential” for reaching a settlement there.
