Dispatches from Nice said today that French border police officials have been exposed as practicing extortion at the expense of Jewish refugee entering France illegally from Italy.
Among officials involved, it was reported, is Inspector Augustin Francal, formerly senior police officer at the French frontier post of Breil-sur-Royat, on the Italian frontier near Nice. Francal, who in the meantime has been shifted to a Spanish frontier post, has been arrested on extortion charges.
