A special campaign launched by French Zionist organizations to raise 40 million francs for North African Jewry had passed the halfway mark today At a special meeting of large donors last night, some seven million francs was turned over to the committee and Baron Guy de Rothschild, president of the French United Jewish Appeal, announced that he had himself collected ten million. In addition, the Federation of Jewish Societies and the Women’s International Zionist Organization also announced receipts of their drives to date.
(In Montrwal, Saul Hayes, executive director of the Canadian Jewish Congress, disclosed that in a meeting with Lou Horowitz, overseas director of the Joint Immigration Services, possibilities of immigration into Canada of skilled workers from North Africa of European descent were explored.)
