Asked to contribute to a special issue of The Jewish Advocate devoted to “Telling the Truth About the Jew,” George Bernard Shaw wrote: “Waste of time! Why don’t you devote a special edition to The Truth About the Germans? — G.B.S.” The Advocate, local Jewish weekly, had written to the famous British playwright and critic: “The Jewish Advocate plans to devote its issue of Feb. 10 to ‘Telling the Truth About the Jew.’ We should appreciate a brief article from you which would be appropriate for this special edition.”
