General John J. Pershing will speak at the mass meeting called by the American Christian Committee for Jewish relief which will be held at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Sunday night. Louis Marshall, Bishop Manning, Dr. S. Parkes Cadman, president of the Federal Council of Churches of Christ in America and Major General John F. O’Ryan will also address the gathering.

In accepting the invitation of the American Christian Committee, General Pershing, who postponed his return to Washington in order to be present at the meeting tonight, stated that he was deeply interested in this work, especially because it is national and international in its scope.

Rev. Edward Lawrence Hunt, director of the American Goodwill Union, who is in charge of the field work of the American Christian Committee has arranged the mass meeting.

The following invitation was sent out by Rev. Hunt.

“The epic of American generosity by our fellow citizens of Jewish faith who are raising $25,000,000.00 for our destitute brothers in Eastern Europe has inspired some of the Christians in America to ask the high privilege of having a little part in this great adventure.

“As Director of America’s Goodwill Union, I have been asked by the American Christian Fund for Jewish Relief to give part of my time to this work. I have arranged for the meeting in the Cathedral Sunday night.

“This meeting should be epoch-making. A Roman Catholic, A Congregational Minister, a Jew, and a Bishop will speak from the pulpit of the foremost Episcopal Church in America. Such a gathering was never held in this or any other country.

“My purpose in arranging it is twofold. Far more important than the raising of funds is the promotion of Goodwill within our own country. This is our supreme need today.

“As you know that the publicity value of this meeting will depend largely on the attendance and as it is difficult to get people to attend a Sunday night meeting in New York, may I take the liberty of asking your earnest cooperation to help fill the place to overflowing Sunday night? You will know best how to get a large number of your friends to attend.”

The next annual convention of District No. 4 of the Independent Order of B’nai B’rith will be held in Long Beach, Cal., with delegates attending from Pacific Coast states and British Columbia.
