A national conference of German doctors today unanimously called upon all Jewish doctors living in Germany to return to the profession and to various medical professional groups from which they were barred by the Nazis. In the same resolution, the doctors petitioned the Bonn Government to restore all rights taken from Jewish doctors and to right all injustices done them by the Nazis.
All West German radio stations carried a special Rosh Hashanah program Monday. Among the speakers on the program were Bavarian Chief Rabbi Aaron Ohrenstein and Dr. Phillip Auerbach, head of the Bavarian Restitution Office.
Dr. Kurt Schumacher, head of the West German Social Democratic Party, cabled Israel President Weizmann on the eve of Rosh Hashanah and extended his party’s best wishes to the Jewish state for the new year. Dr. Schumacher also addressed a statement to the Jewish Central Committee assuring it that his party “will do everything to give the Jewish citizens a feeling of being equal and of being respected.” At services Sunday in memory of the victims of fascism, West Berlin’s Mayor Ernest Reuter and Bavarian Minister Joseph Mueller spoke of the sufferings of the Jews during the Hitler regime.
