M. Einselohr, German Minister at Athens, has approached M. Maximos, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and has expressed his surprise that certain newspapers, in particular Jewish newspapers, have lately been employing unsuitable language against Chancellor Hitler of Germany. As a result of this, M. Maximos held a telephone conversation with the Governor General of Macedonia, who called together the directors of the Jewish papers and made certain recommendations to them with the purpose of avoiding injurious expressions about the Berlin government. Greece, he said, had a great interest in maintaining friendly relations with Germany. The representatives of the Jewish press replied that the situation was such in Germany, where efforts were being made to annihilate 600,000 innocent Jews, that they could not hide the facts from their readers nor refrain from joining the protests of the entire civilized world. Nevertheless, they undertook to do all in their power not to create difficulties for the Greek Government.
