The ancient Temple of Baal, god of the Canaanites, was unearthed by a German archaeological expedition on the site of the ancient city of Shechem.
The expedition, which is headed by Professor Ernst Sellin, started its work in 1914, but was interrupted during the war. Professor Sellin believes that the Temple of Baal which he discovered is that referred to in Judges, Chapter 9.
The excavation laid bare the temple in its entirety.
