German University Opens “institute of Judaism”; Rabbis to Lecture

The Lutheran Theological Faculty of the local university announced the opening of an Institute of Judaism where future Protestant pastors are to learn about Judaism during tie past two millennia right down to present-day Israel and where Judaic studies are to be conducted.

Research now being carried on is focused on the Dead Sea Scrolls, the liturgy of the Essenes and the writings of Josephus Flavius, while the students are at the same time familiarized with selected works of modern Hebrew literature. Among the lecturers are Dr. Robert Raphael Geis, the former Chief Rabbi of Baden, and Chief Rabbi Dr.Fritz Bloch of Wuerttemberg .
