The Belfairs of Golf Club of Southend, a southern coast resort town, bowed today to municipal pressure and dropped its blackball vote which has been consistently used to bar Jewish applicants for membership. The club had lost its license permitting members to play on the municipal golf course.
A change in membership admission rules requires a majority vote for rejection of an applicant. Previously only two votes were required. The club has applied for restoration of its municipal course license.
