The first community good will forum in several years was held here last night at the North Reformed Church. Lay representatives of the Protestant, Catholic and Jewish elements participated at the invitation of the Rev. Dr. T. Porter Drumm, minister of the church, and one of the outstanding clergymen of the city.
Common Pleas Court Judge Richard Hartshorne, Protestant speaker, in a plea for international courts arbitration of disputes between nations, “rather than the sword,” told of incidents purporting to show that a German-French munitions family was originally in a good measure responsible for Hitler’s financing.
He declared that “there should be no question of inter-creedal good will,” because “both Ctholicism and Protestantism sprang from the root of Judaism and we bow down to one who was a Jew.”
Francis P. Meehan, lawyer and former president of the Alumni of Seton Hall College, appealed for greater tolerance among creeds and “for a solution of our problems through process of reasoning.” He declared “the Ten Commandments were a mutual law holding all of us, Catholic, Protestant and Jew in a common bond.”
