Governor Hugh Carey of New York, in a proclamation released Tuesday, has designated March 1 as the “Sabbath of Remembrance in Solidarity with Syrian Jewry Day.” Efforts on behalf of the beleaguered Syrian Jewish community “should be supported by all New Yorkers,” he said.
