Harm Menken, a 46-year-old teacher at the government-run navigation school in Stade, Lower Saxony, has been ordered dismissed for disseminating anti-Semitic propaganda in 1979. Menken claimed that the gas chambers were a lie and, in articles in local newspapers, accused Jews of preparing a plot to annihilate the German people. Government authorities in Lower Saxony took no disciplinary measures against Menken until forced to by public opinion. When the matter was finally brought to the court, the punishment asked for was a 10 percent cut in his salary for an 18-month period. The panel of judges ordered him fired. He may appeal.
