Dr. Norman Salit, president of the Synagogue Council of America, today pronounced the benediction on a televised program here marking issuance of a new eight-cent stamp bearing a picture of the Statue of Liberty and the national motto “In God We Trust. ” This is the first regular U. S. stamp to bear the motto.
Rabbi Salit participated in the program together with representatives of the Catholic and Protestant faiths and with President Eisenhower. Also present were Vice President Richard M. Nixon, Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, Postmaster General Arthur Sommerfield and members of the Cabinet and diplomatic corps, including a representative of Israel.
