The eight Jewish settlements in the 7,500 acre Wadi Havareth area of the Sharon valley were completely cut off from the rest of Palestine today by torrential rains that damaged roads and cut off communications. Low places were flooded and a shortage of food was reported.
Havareth, also known as Ernek Hefer, is Jewish National Fund land which was reclaimed by draining seven years ago for projected
settlement of 1,500 Jewish families. Settlement of the area began three years ago. The settlers engage in orange cultivation and mixed farming.
Unusually heavy rainfalls yesterday resulted in floods in the lower parts of Tel Aviv. Houses, furniture and goods to an unascertainable extent were damaged. No casualties were reported.
