Acting on the French Government’s wishes to have potential emigrants out at harbors where they could await steamships, the HIAS-ICA Emigration Association is organizing transports of refugees to Le Havre and Bordeaux.
All these refugees were holders of valid visas for overseas lands. The feverish work was supervised by Edouard Oungre, of Paris, and James L. Bernstein, of New York, directors of the organization, making it possible for many aged refugees to proceed to countries abroad, including the United States, on American and other steamers. Both directors of the refugee-aid organization are remaining in Paris, working with a reduced staff since part of the personnel was mobilized.
Meanwhile, 200 refugee physicians have volunteered for Government service through the Paris headquarters of the OSE, Jewish health society.
