Histadrut, the Israel Federation of Labor, announced today it will place striking income tax, customs and other revenue officials on trial in a Histadrut court for violating the Federation’s ban against the walk-out. The 5,000 strikers, ignoring previous Histadrut threats of expulsion from membership, warned that, if the Federation persists in balking them, they will turn in their Histadrut membership cards.

The strike which started yesterday continued today. One of the strikers’ demands calls for extra payments to compensate them for what they term “social ostracism” due to the fact that people don’t like tax collectors. They also demand extra payment for special duties in connection with detecting would-be smugglers and duty cheaters.
