Adolf Hitler is a “dangerous person, a fiendishly capable person,” the Rev. Dr. Edward L. Israel declared in a Yom Kippur sermon at the Bolton Street Temple, of which he is rabbi. In a brief analysis of the events which have followed in the wake of Hitler’s accession to power, Dr. Israel said:
“We must come to the conclusion that the effort to laugh Hitler out of court has not made much progress. He is obviously not a clowning sign painter. He combines a Messiah complex with shrewdness and cold cruelty.”
