The House today approved a $25,000 appropriation for the Dies Committee investigation into un-American activities. In submitting the recommendation, Representative Warren (Dem., North Carolina) stated: “The report will be embalmed in the archives and nothing will be done about it.” He said that there was sufficient legislation now enacted to take care of the conditions sought to be remedied by the investigation.
President Roosevelt yesterday signed the Congressional act requiring registration with the Secretary of State of all persons, associations or corporations who act as public relations counsel, publicity agent or attorney for a foreign country or foreign political party, or for a domestic organization subsidized by a foreign government or political party.
The law was enacted on recommendation of the Congressional committee which investigated un-American propaganda a few years ago. Sponsors of the bill said it would apply to the Communist Party and to such pro-Nazi organizations as the German-American Bund only if they were acting for or were directed by a foreign government or political party.
