Sharp Memorandum Complains Against Infringement of Numerus Clausus (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)
The authorities of the University of Budapest presented a sharply worded memorandum to Minister of Education, Count Klebelsberg, on the question of the admission of Jewish students to the universities. The memorandum complains against the infringement of the numerus clausus and the autonomy of the university, by the Minister’s ordering the admittance of Jewish students over the quota.
The students particularly object, the memorandum states, to the increase of the number of Jewish students in some universities from 6 percent to 23 percent. Measures taken by the government against the students, ordering their clubs to be closed and withdrawing allowances which are granted to some, is stirring up excitement. Full re-inforcement of the numerus clausus and restoration of students’ rights is demanded in the memorandum.
